Christian Science was introduced to my family when I was...
Christian Science was introduced to my family when I was about eight years old. At that time my mother was healed of tuberculosis after all material aid had proved ineffective. She became an active student of Christian Science and lived through her mid-eighties. As for me, during all these years God has been my only physician.
When our older boy, Bob, was sixteen, a large growth appeared on the side of his neck. At his request, I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for him, but the problem didn't seem to be yielding. At that point I dismissed the practitioner and got in touch with my Christian Science teacher, who agreed to help the boy. In our prayers we affirmed the unreality of the condition, for we knew that it had no legitimate place in God's kingdom. One evening Bob called me to his room and showed me that the condition was draining. Soon he was healed, and the healing was permanent.
A couple of years later, when our younger son was attending a boys' camp for Christian Scientists, he suffered oak poisoning. The condition seemed to be quite serious, and I was called and asked to come up to the camp. At that time my husband, who was not a Christian Scientist but who was very favorable toward it, was also having a physical problem. I did not wish to ask a member of our family to stay with him while I was away, as the family would then learn of our difficulties and might feel overly concerned. So I prayed to know what to do. I acknowledged that the Christ, Truth, was present right then and there and was supplying every need.
