As a child I attended a Protestant Sunday School...

As a child I attended a Protestant Sunday School which I loved very much. But many of my questions went unanswered—in particular, "What is God?"

As a teen-ager, I moved with my parents to another district and, because of Sunday employment, I didn't attend another church. Marriage and three young children later, I found myself alone—my husband in the Merchant Navy and my parents abroad. During this time, life grew increasingly difficult for me. I was having to take capsules daily for anemia. (The condition had been medically diagnosed and the capsules prescribed by a doctor.)

It was at this point that I felt life was no longer worth living. One day, in desperation I got on my knees and asked God to help me. Within seconds the doorbell rang and the acquaintance who called informed me of Christian Science during our conversation. The Sunday after, I attended a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and there I began to find my answer to what God is, and the spiritual help I had been seeking. Later, I threw away the capsules I had been taking for the anemia. However, at my husband's insistence, I had a medical examination and was found to be free from the anemic condition and in good health. (I might add that my husband is not a Christian Scientist.)
