When our children were young, my husband passed on quite suddenly

When our children were young, my husband passed on quite suddenly. The children expressed a deep regret for not having their father with them. But because they were students in the Christian Science Sunday School, we were able to discuss the spiritual truths of this marvelous Science. I explained to the children that if they had received a beautifully wrapped gift from a friend, they would admire the package, but the important part would be the gift. So, we could cherish the qualities that their father expressed, such as love, kindness, honesty, strength, and happiness. This reasoning gave the children a great deal of peace.

Years later my daughter left home for an extended trip throughout the western states. At one point she wrote that it had comforted her to remember that we are all close to one another in the universe of Spirit. She added that she had thought about this statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."

One day I slipped and somersaulted down a flight of stairs. In flight I declared, "God is everywhere." When I landed on my back at the bottom of the stairs I affirmed, "Nothing can separate man from God." I got to my feet and gathered up the things that I had been carrying and put them away. I had a luncheon engagement, so I drove there singing hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal. One of my fingers had turned quite dark and was painful, but no one seemed to notice, and after lunch we walked around and did some window-shopping.
