Our sure defense against "the gates of hell"

"The gates of hell"—aren't they seen in the many different temptations to believe the lie of life separate from Spirit, God? These temptations need not prevail against you and me, because they have no foundation in reality, and we can prove it! Spiritual understanding, the opposite of mortal, material testimony, is our sure defense in every situation of discord.

Christ Jesus established his church on healing, on spiritual understanding of God, on demonstration of Christ, Truth. In response to Peter's confession "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God," Jesus replied: "Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matt. 16:16-18.
