Focusing our thoughts productively
God is divine Mind, the ultimate source of all definite, constructive thoughts and action, as Christian Science reveals. Divine Mind not only inspires intelligent thoughts but also gives us the capacity to focus them productively.
Whether we are business persons, homemakers, or laboratory scientists, we need the ability to achieve clarity, focus, and inspiration. And this is more effectively done when we turn directly to the source of substantial ideas, our all-wise Mind, God. Prayer allies us to divine Mind's inspiration, the spirit of harmony and beauty. The ability to harmonize our thoughts is no more our personal ability or creation than the thoughts themselves. It comes from God.
A simple experience gave me a hint of God's great focalizing power. One day I noticed the solitaire diamond in my engagement ring was missing. Approximately a month later I was still seeking to know more about God's controlling power. A tiny sparkle in a shadowy corner of the room caught my eye, and I bent down to see what it was. I'd found the diamond from my ring! A familiar passage of Mrs. Eddy's from the Christian Science textbook came to mind: "The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence." Science and Health, p. 504.
