A patient's view of Christian Science nursing

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy explains "angels" in this way: "Angels are God's representatives. These upward-soaring beings never lead towards self, sin, or materiality, but guide to the divine Principle of all good, whither every real individuality, image, or likeness of God, gathers. By giving earnest heed to these spiritual guides they tarry with us, and we entertain 'angels unawares.'" Science and Health, p. 299.

I had occasion to be very conscious of angels when I went to a Christian Science care facility for healing. My family had tried to care for me at home, but intense pain and increasing disability had made it necessary for me to have nursing care.

I will never forget the feeling of warmth and assurance that greeted me. Several nurses and a supervisor were waiting and escorted me to my room. It wasn't just the smooth sheets on the bed or the soft breeze coming in the window or the murmur of voices in the hall that gave me such comfort. I was overwhelmed with gratitude that everyone here was knowing what was spiritually true of me, supporting my earnest efforts to prove my spiritual dominion as God's reflection. This warm feeling of comfort and safety let me drift into a restful sleep.
