My first testimony appeared in The Christian Science Journal almost ten years ago. Once again I feel it is time for me to pay tribute in the periodicals to the healing efficacy of Christian Science.
Early one evening I felt twinges of pain. But I did not pay much attention to them and retired for the evening. However, the pain became increasingly worse. Then I recalled a gallbladder attack (of which I'd been healed years before), and I became frightened.
I tossed and turned for some time. Finally I thought, "Oh, if I could only sleep; I'm so very tired"—hoping I could "sleep off" the pain. But I rejected this idea and decided instead to pray. I began, using the Lord's Prayer (see Matt. 6:9-13), "the scientific statement of being" (see Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468), and the twenty-third Psalm. But the words seemed devoid of meaning, and the pain became severe. I mentally cried out for a "painkiller."
