Working in the right direction

When driving on a long trip, we feel reassured when we know that we are on the right road. Similarly, it brings comfort to the human heart to know that we are on the right road spiritually, that we are not using our time in vain, as we pray and study to follow the way of Christ Jesus, made so clear in the teaching of Christian Science.

Priceless is the precise knowledge of God, His essential nature, and of man's relationship to Him. This knowledge of God, divine Life, and obedience to Him, are the keys to success in everything we do. They furnish us with the ability to heal others and ourselves of whatever is unlike God, often of difficulties that baffle mankind. Each step of progress in this direction is a cause for gratitude. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes, "Every step of progress is a step more spiritual." The People's Idea of God, p. 1.

Very early during my study of Christian Science, I wondered if God knew I was seeking Him and desiring to order my life in accord with His law. Then one day I read this Bible verse: "Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words." Dan. 10:12. This reading restored my confidence and made clear to me that I was definitely on the right road. "From the first day" God works with us when we turn to Him and learn to serve Him with our whole heart.
