Claim the victory!

When David defeated Goliath of the Philistines, he proved the supremacy of God, divine Life, over the so-called power of materialism. Notwithstanding the terrifying picture Goliath presented, David said, "Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied."^{I Sam. 17:45.} With God-given confidence, David expected and claimed the victory of the God of Israel. What a triumph!

The supreme power of Truth, God, that overcame evil in ages past still triumphs over distress and trouble today. The Bible gives the key to victory in these words: "Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."^{I John 5:4.}

Absolute spiritual reliance upon God, good, does not spring from blind faith or emotional belief without understanding. Christian Science teaches that the faith which "overcometh the world" is based upon intelligent comprehension that God is the Father of man; that man, as the child of God, is ever at one with Him as His perfect, spiritual offspring, reflecting without interruption all the good that God, eternal Mind, bestows.
