FOR CHILDREN
Joan was very brave
[The following narrative of an actual experience was written by a Christian Scientist in Eastern Europe.]
Nearly every weekend Mark and Joan went with their parents to a house near the woods. All week the children looked forward to this favorite place. They had a beautiful garden. And how quiet and peaceful it was! God's presence felt so very real. Evenings the family would sometimes sit on the patio and sing songs, some of them from the Christian Science Hymnal. Joan taught her little brother the words, which she was already able to read.
During the day they were busy with all kinds of activities, including chores. One afternoon, while Father was off picking mushrooms, Mother needed some wood for the fire. Taking the ax, she tried to chop some wood for kindling. All of a sudden she screamed. Her hand was badly cut.
Seeing the blood, Mark began to cry, but Joan was very brave.
