As I recall the beautiful healings my children and I have received through the practice of Christian Science, my heart overflows with gratitude to God.
One such healing that stands out occurred when my son (who is now an active college student) was eight years old. He was sent home from school one day complaining of an earache. We discussed our Father-Mother God's ever-present love for all His children, and later the boy fell asleep. But when he woke in the morning, there were symptoms of a painful mastoid condition. For several days the only nourishment he was able to take was liquid through a straw.
Throughout this time earnest prayer was continued for the child, and we worked very closely with a Christian Science practitioner. This statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which we held to and which my son soon learned, proved extremely helpful (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I prayed to see only the child of God's creating, and I denounced the evidence of disease, knowing that it had never touched the real man. The Bible tells us (Gen. 1:31), "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." And Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 151), "The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness." Buoyed by these spiritual truths, I was convinced that this youngster was not now, nor had he ever been, separated from the one divine Mind, God, who had made him.
