Deeper than words, the healing Spirit!

Recently a friend wrote of a wonderful healing—and his experience bears witness to what he calls "the inherent spontaneity and freshness of prayer." It tells of the very substance of the prayer that heals.

A member of his family was suffering from tapeworm. Despite my friend's prayerful work, and the metaphysical help of another, the difficulty did not yield for quite some time. The family began to be alarmed.

By way of background, my friend explained that for years he had been studying Christian Science energetically, but that he had lately begun to realize he was engaging in a sort of "clerical ritual ... copying, saving, and cataloging articles, ideas, and verses endlessly ... doing an enormous amount of reading, but very little praying." Inspired prayer was being put aside for what seemed the more tangible activity of reading. He said that when the family member's difficulty became serious, no cataloged article seemed adequate. Nevertheless, a turning point came.
