Christian Science has blessed me these many years
Christian Science has blessed me these many years. At one time, over forty years ago, I had a serious glandular difficulty. I was taking medicine three times a day and had a complete physical twice a year. Then the man to whom I was engaged suggested I try Christian Science. He was not a Scientist, but his father had once been healed through it. So I went to see a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal. Surely she was listening to divine Mind, for she discerned my love of the Bible as well as my lack of knowledge of Science. She asked me to ponder two verses in Isaiah: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness" (41:10), and "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me" (43:10). I was also asked to study the ninety-first Psalm and to read the current Bible Lesson as outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly.
Studying the Bible verses quieted my fears and enabled me to stop taking the medicine (something the practitioner had indicated was essential if I was to benefit from Christian Science treatment). Each day the Bible Lesson meant more to me. I also came to value the Christian Science Reading Room; the hours spent there were rewarding. The warm, loving greeting of the attendant helped chase my fears away, and I felt secure and able to study.
Because of this physical difficulty, I had stopped menstruating in my early twenties. However, a few weeks after beginning the study of Christian Science, this cycle became normal. I also no longer suffered from chronic constipation, and both my fiance and I stopped social drinking without any difficulty.
