A bouquet of violets
Have you ever walked in the woods or along a quiet road in the spring? All the plants and flowers are coming up, poking their heads through the old grass and leaves from last year. Sometimes you have to pull the dead leaves away so you can see the little flowers. You might find violets that you didn't know were there!
It can be like that when we want to listen for God to tell us what to do. He is our Father-Mother, always with us, showing us the way. But sometimes we are so busy worrying about other things or just talking and making noise, we don't hear God. That's like letting violets stay covered with the old leaves!
In the Bible we read, "Be still, and know that I am God." Ps. 46:10. And Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health, "Spirit, God, is heard when the senses are silent." Science and Health, p. 89. Good thoughts are always coming to us from God. We wouldn't want to miss out on hearing them, because they're what really make us happy. So we tell the bad thoughts to hush.
