The prospector
Literature gives us glimpses of the lone "desert rat," leading his burro loaded with food and supplies, wandering about the mountains in search of outcrops of precious ore. Sometimes he was rewarded in his search; but often it ended with disappointment. He was left to dream of the things a treasure might have provided.
Most of us are searching for treasures of harmony and health, or for freedom from the burden of unemployment, lack, loneliness, frustration. If we could only realize that we are already on top of a mountain of riches beyond human imagination and that all we need do is to start digging!
What is this mountain of riches? It is the omnipresence of good, God. Good is always nearer than our breathing. Paul declared, "In him we live, and move, and have our being." Acts 17:28, We can never be outside good—the presence and influence of God's perfect harmony. But if we feel overburdened by false, mortal beliefs, we may have to dig through this imposition to discover the availability and reliability and munificence of good. This fact is made plain in the Science of Christianity, which Jesus exemplified. Mrs. Eddy explains it in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health.
