My mother was introduced to Christian Science when I was six years old. She enthusiastically embraced the truth of its teachings and immediately enrolled her children in a Christian Science Sunday School.
Although I had been raised in this teaching, I took its benefits for granted. I made no special effort to increase my understanding of it until adulthood, when I was raising my own children. During those years there were many opportunities to prove the healing power of Christian Science, and this Science never failed me when I practiced it understandingly.
At this time I am particularly grateful for two recent healings. At the passing of my husband, after fifty-three years of marriage, I was lifted above sadness and grief. Christian Science teaches us the spiritual facts that Life is eternal; that God's man is neither born into matter nor is he subject to death. In our textbook, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes on page 548, "We see that man has never lost his spiritual estate and his eternal harmony." The truth of this statement has brought me complete peace and an assurance of God's loving care for my husband and for me.
