There's no "water over the dam"

Most of us recall past events we wish had not occurred. Perhaps we live with them, believing they can't be changed now. We may give an occasional mental shrug: "It's water over the dam."

Christian Science tells us: "Don't you believe they can't be changed. They can be redeemed." God requires total moral purification. So it is unchristian to let error hide in a time sequence. Because God is infinite good, He reigns with absolute power, assuring us now of man's complete freedom. Paul put it in these words: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" II Cor. 3:17. —liberty from all hurting, inhibiting, and harmful errors, whether labeled "water over the dam" or anything else.

If someone once smoked and drank but was healed by God's love, he no longer bemoans his past indulgences. They have been dissolved. If an adulterer is healed by the Christ, Truth, we should have the attitude of Christ Jesus, who said, "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." John 8:11. When adulterous thinking is dissolved, it is gone. If a man robbed a store, served prison time, but was then healed by the Christ, Truth, the error could not hang on and on. Dissolved sin is no sin. When people are healed and purified in this Christly manner, error has been outdone by God's allness. How, then, can a past "nothing" create a present effect? Nothing, proved to be nothing, is nothing. Time doesn't give it life or power.
