"Peace be unto you"
John 20:19
The doors were shut and bolted fast,
for fear of enemies,
where sad disciples pondered
the recent horror of events—
when suddenly, the blur of tear-wet eyes
dissolved in joyous recognition.
The room was warm with peace.
Light flooded clouded vision.
For Jesus stood there, calmly,
in their very midst.
Cross and grave outdone!
For him no locked doors could exist!
O pure and caring Christ,
forever breaking through
our self-made walls of worry,
sickness, stress,
fill with love our darkened consciousness,
and lift our longing hearts to feel anew
the beauty of that blessing:
"Peace be unto you."
