Prayer and treatment
Are they the same? Or is Christian Science treatment something other than prayer?
The fact is, treatment administered by a Christian Scientist to a patient requesting this method of care is powerful, specific prayer. It is Christian prayer. This is true prayer, rooted in the Christ, expressing the power and authority of Christ. The Bible assures us, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16. That is a vivid and accurate assessment of Christian Science treatment.
So often in Mrs. Eddy's writings, the terms "prayer" and "treatment" are virtually interchangeable. The chapter "Prayer" in Science and Health plants the seeds for a Christly method of affirmation and denial that is later developed more fully in the chapter "Christian Science Practice."
