The new Bible Exhibit

Many people are enjoying the permanent Bible Exhibit recently opened to the public at the Christian Science Center in Boston. Some are looking beyond its obvious value as an original and intriguing source of factual information about the Scriptures; they may ask just what its role is in communicating Christian Science to the world.

Central to the answer is the fact that Mary Baker Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science, made selective use of many ways and levels of communication in sharing Christian Science. The means she utilized ranged from contributions published in newspapers and magazines of her day to public lectures to formal class instruction for selected students. She gave each of her own periodicals a distinctly defined purpose. See The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353 . Each channel had its own specific role.

Today the Mapparium, a design feature in The Christian Science Publishing Society building, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, a percentage of whom take with them a pamphlet, a periodical, or a copy of the Christian Science textbook.
