The Monitor: proof that Christian Scientists don't live in ivory towers
Is The Christian Science Monitor just an excellent newspaper?
Certainly it is an example of high-quality journalism. Most Christian Scientists know that their Leader, Mrs. Eddy, founded the paper in 1908, when yellow or scandalous journalism was prevalent. In the ensuing decades the Monitor's standards of journalistic integrity and compassion have won it numerous awards and the respect of world leaders and professionals from all walks of life.
Many Christian Scientists are also aware of their responsibility to support the Monitor, as outlined by Mrs. Eddy in the Manual of The Mother Church: "It shall be the privilege and duty of every member, who can afford it, to subscribe for the periodicals which are the organs of this Church...." Man., Art. VIII, Sect. 14.
