"When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible" (Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 180). Being raised by loving parents who were also dedicated Christian Scientists, I always knew that through God I would find the solution to any problem—no matter how large it tried to present itself. I had many healings during my childhood through the prayerful work of my parents. However, shortly after arriving to attend college far from home, I faced a challenge of my own.

While on a picnic I felt a sting on my ankle. Soon the ankle swelled and became painful. I could not walk on the foot. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help and turned to the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly for inspiration. Then I realized that I was desperately homesick and needed to get closer to my Father-Mother God. Through study of the words "Father" and "Mother" as used in Science and Health I felt free of the homesickness—I gained an awareness of myself as the child of God. Fear was eliminated as thought was flooded with the fact of divine Love's omnipresence. And although the ankle continued to swell, singing hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal annulled discouragement. A week after the incident, the leg and foot were completely normal—I was healed.

This healing had far-reaching effects because I was learning to lean on God rather than my human parents. A year and a half later I married a military pilot. My relationship with my parents and my in-laws is joyous.
