The Christ, Truth, seen, felt, and demonstrated by Jesus so long...

The Christ, Truth, seen, felt, and demonstrated by Jesus so long ago and made clear to this age in the writings of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, still blesses today. For over forty years I have loved this Science and have tried to live it each day, experiencing along the way many proofs of God's care through the demonstration of Truth.

While riding a bicycle as a child, I fell over the handlebars and landed on my face, skinning it badly and knocking loose a front tooth. With the loving help of both a Christian Science practitioner, who prayed for me, and my mother, who read to me from Mrs. Eddy's book Science and Health, the facial abrasions were entirely healed, leaving no scars. We read on pages 247-248 of Science and Health: "The recipe for beauty is to have less illusion and more Soul, to retreat from the belief of pain or pleasure in the body into the unchanging calm and glorious freedom of spiritual harmony." And Mrs. Eddy adds, "Love never loses sight of loveliness." The tooth was moved back into place and afterward grew in normally. This healing was so complete that I became a photographer's model while in my teens.

Another significant healing was that of whooping cough, considered contagious and so necessitating my staying home from school and away from other children. Although I was quickly healed of this condition, the school did not permit me to return to classes for some time. My mother was concerned that I would get behind in my schoolwork and be held back a grade even though I was keeping up with assignments while at home. This healing too was complete, because when I returned to school I was far ahead of my class, and instead of falling back, I was allowed to skip a grade.
