Before I learned about Christian Science, I frequently suffered...
Before I learned about Christian Science, I frequently suffered from cramps in my arms and was very unhappy about this condition. Finally I reached such a low point that I was searching for some spiritual support. One day a friend of mine phoned me. Noticing a joyous change in her, I asked, "What's going on with you? Your voice sounds so happy and cordial." Whereupon she answered, "Indeed, I have something very special. I have found Christian Science." After she had told me about the church services, I asked her to take me with her, and at the next opportunity I accompanied her to a Wednesday testimony meeting. It was very uplifting, and on the way home I felt light as a feather. I began to understand that I am truly a child of God.
My friend then gave me a biography of Mary Baker Eddy and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy. I started retiring early in the evening in order to read them. After reading, I always felt free and happy, and I was able to enjoy deep, restful sleep again. Much later, without my noticing, the cramps also disappeared, and they have never returned. It was only then that I realized my changed attitude, brought about through Christian Science, had led to healing.
Since then many years have passed, and there have been instances of wonderful guidance and other blessings in our family. One evening some time ago, I had to pick up a basket of flatwork from the laundry. I carried it to our car. In the darkness I overlooked one last low step, thereby falling heavily. However, I was able to get up and reach the car, where my husband was waiting. Then the pain in my knees became very severe. I told my husband only that I had had a fall. My husband, who by then had also taken up the study of Christian Science, said not a word; but I felt that he was making the truth clear to himself with ideas we had learned. On page 424 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy tells us: "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." Suddenly another passage from the textbook also came to my mind (ibid., p. 113): "...There is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain. ..." I clung to this sentence until we arrived home. There I could get out of the car without help, and I was surprised that I no longer felt any pain. I was very impressed by this complete healing.
