During my years of teaching in a Christian Science Sunday School I stressed the importance of many biblical truths, telling my students that these would aid them in emergencies. Two years ago the Gulf Coast was hit by an especially violent hurricane. The scientific statements and spiritual truths that I had explored with my students proved most valuable. We had been informed of the impending storm by the National Weather Service and had taken all necessary precautions.
Then at 5:20 one evening, electric and telephone service was disrupted. The winds became ferocious, and we could see trees being toppled outside our windows. The first thing that came to mind was these words of Hymn No. 144 from the Christian Science Hymnal:
