I was brought up in Christian Science
I was brought up in Christian Science. But it wasn't until my college years, after I'd had a marvelous healing of a human relations and college-adjustment difficulty, that I awakened to the significance of Science as the healing Comforter promised by Christ Jesus. Almost immediately thereafter I took the wonderful step of Christian Science class instruction and, at the same time, experienced such a change of heart that it caused a complete reorientation of my life. As a result, my remaining college years were very, very happy and successful.
After college my earnest study of Science continued. I was able to serve the United States Air Force in the field in which I had my college degree (architecture), as well as participate in local church activities. My whole term of active duty was a real joy!
Subsequently I stayed on in the city where I'd been stationed to work for a very fine firm of architects. However, after a couple of years I found myself struggling with an overwhelming sense of depression, which I could not seem to rise above. At that time, I heard a Christian Science lecture that brought out very clearly what was necessary for continued progress and happiness. Included in the lecture was the children's story of "Cheerio," the pet parakeet who was inadvertently trapped in a kitchen string drawer. In his darkest hour Cheerio sang! And because of this, his master was led to find and release him. The moral was: keep singing, keep rejoicing in God's love and all-power, keep holding steadfastly to the truth of spiritual being and its perfection, and you too will progress, find genuine freedom, health, and happiness.
