The man who lives for God

Man actually lives for God. He is God's spiritual expression or idea. His whole reason for being is to reflect God. When we realize that this man constitutes our true selfhood, we can increasingly prove in our human lives that we are really living for God. And there is nothing more satisfying than providing such proof.

How can we get a better understanding of ourselves as this divinely created and motivated man? By denying the material belief that we are self-motivated mortals and by acknowledging that the divine Principle alone makes and motivates us, producing all our thoughts. We must see that divine Principle, Mind, constitutes and governs our true consciousness, or being. Since this consciousness is the reflection of the divine consciousness, the only thoughts and motives that can be present there are God's. Man is derived from God, Christian Science explains. When we see this, we find ourselves accepting God's thoughts and rejecting material sense perceptions, human beliefs, and psychological theories.

Sometimes we may think we do not feel like "being" the man who lives for God, the man who reflects divine Love's attributes and power. But when we acknowledge the one infinite Mind as the only source of our thought and motivation, we are telling the truth that destroys this lie. We then can recognize that inclinations not impelled by Mind are not our own but only suggestions of mesmeric material sense, whereas willingness to admit the absolute truth that Love alone controls us is itself impelled by Deity. Following through with a persistent acknowledgment of the relationship of God and man as Principle and idea, as Mind and manifestation, will break down resistance to accepting God's thoughts. Then we will feel Love's control.
