Do circumstances have a victim?
In a game called "Jack in the Middle" children form a circle around a single child and sing, holding hands. "Jack" has to try to break through to freedom. Similarly, many of us struggle for our freedom. And we feel hemmed in, not perhaps so much by people as by circumstances.
"Victim of circumstances"?
