I acknowledge, with deepest gratitude, the opening...
I acknowledge, with deepest gratitude, the opening of the Scriptures, the living Word of God, through Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and through her founding of the Church of Christ, Scientist. No other woman has done so much for humanity.
The following healing is one that is most precious to me. Since early girlhood I suffered with a rheumatic heart. Strenuous physical activity or stressful situations brought on intense palpitation, often followed by blackouts. As I grew older I became more and more fearful of this condition because it was reminiscent of my father's long struggle with heart disease. Physicians had given him no hope of permanent recovery but prescribed various strong drugs to ease the pain and delay the finality. It seemed a very cruel sentence to me. Still, despite the fact that I had been a Christian Scientist for many years, the memory of my father's illness remained vivid. Unwittingly I held on to a mortal belief of heredity.
One day I arrived home after an especially demanding day at my office and blacked out. I only remember reaching for the mail and putting the key in the lock. The next thing I knew I was on the telephone in my study listening to the voice of a Christian Science practitioner (although I had no memory of dialing her number). "God is Life," she was declaring. "God is your life."
