Some years ago, my wife and I returned to our home one evening only to find that the key to our front door was gone from my key ring, and we were unable to enter the house.
I decided to get our stepladder, so that I could climb onto the roof. Once there, I realized I could remove a few interlocking tiles, and thus enter the attic. This I did, and proceeded along inside the attic until I reached a trapdoor in the floor. I then raised the door and prepared to drop down to the next floor—a substantial distance.
As I lowered myself, however, the trapdoor suddenly slammed shut on my hands, and I was left suspended from the ceiling. There was nothing I could do to get help as my wife was still outside the locked house.
