I had been studying Christian Science only a very short time when I was stricken with a facial paralysis. As I was then living with my parents (who did not support my interest in Science), I respected their request that I see a doctor at once. The doctor, in turn, sent me to the hospital.
In the meantime I contacted the friend who had introduced me to this wonderful truth, to ask her if she thought Science could help me with this problem. She assured me that it could and would, so I called a Christian Science practitioner. This woman told me of God's love for me and explained that His creation is and always would remain perfect. She also asked me to think about these lines from Hymn No. 144 in the Christian Science Hymnal: "He holds us perfect in His love,/And we His image bear."
I held on to this statement and pondered it. Although at that time I was reluctant to meet people because of my appearance, I continued to attend Christian Science church services as often as I could. I found much inspiration and comfort in them.
