Finding genuine roots
Where do we look for "roots"—back down the ancestral path to remote or mythical individuals and far-off places? Perhaps what really motivates people to embark on this search is a longing to understand their identity and reason for being.
When he taught his disciples to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven," Matt. 6:9. Christ Jesus revealed his and our true identity to be the son of God. He also said, "The kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:21. If we take Jesus at his word (and he proved his word by his works) then we do not have to search back in time to find our roots or identity. Right now, right where we are, right where we are thinking, our spiritual identity exists to be seen, demonstrated, and lived.
