During the early part of this century, my mother's mother came in contact with Christian Science and soon adopted it as her way of life. For her devoted study and practice of this deeply scientific religion, I am very grateful. Christian Science continues to bless my family and me.

One of the earliest proofs of the healing efficacy of Science that I can recall took place during childhood. I was playing outside with friends when one of my fingers was cut. As I ran inside the house to show my mother the injury, I said over and over again "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). Although at that time much of this statement was not clear to me, I vividly recall feeling that its powerful statements of truth would heal. Because I had been taught, both at home and in a Christian Science Sunday School, that God was ever protecting me, this display of trust was natural.

Upon seeing the deep cut, my mother was somewhat frightened. So a Christian Science practitioner was called to aid in allaying the fear. Through the practitioner's treatment an atmosphere of calm was readily established, and the finger soon mended. I'll always remember that time because I had total trust in God as the only healer. Often since that day, in other situations, I have been upheld by the same childlike trust in Deity.
