For many years I investigated various philosophies and religions in an effort to find the truth. Although I attended different churches and was a Bible student, the answers to my deep questions went unanswered, and Christ Jesus' words and works remained a mystery to me.

I suffered from a chronic dermatitis condition, which often hospitalized me and limited my activities. At that time we lived in the Middle East, where my husband was employed by an oil company. Every two years while we were on leave, I would undergo testing for allergies. Yet even though I took injections, adhered to a strict diet, and tried to follow the doctor's advice, I found no permanent relief.

One day I went with my children to meet a neighbor whose children played with ours. I was breathing through a handkerchief to avoid dust and pollen, so I explained to this woman and a visiting friend that I suffered from various allergies for which there seemed no cure. These two women were Christian Scientists. They explained something of their religion—how it protects and heals—and offered assurance that Science could heal me. I went home with some Christian Science periodicals and the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. For days I did nothing but read this literature. I knew at once that this was the truth I had been searching for.
