In looking back over twenty-five years of marriage,...

In looking back over twenty-five years of marriage, I realize that everything we have as a family we owe to Christian Science.

My grandmother introduced this healing method to my husband and me when she visited in our home. Up until then, an orthodox Protestant church had met my social but not my spiritual needs. And even though I really understood very little about Science, I knew right away that I wanted to be a Christian Scientist. Before long I joined The Mother Church and one of its branches. After witnessing several fine healings, my husband, too, became a Mother Church member.

When our first child was about to be born the doctors at the hospital were very concerned because they said I was suffering from high blood pressure and a heart condition. My husband and I contacted the Christian Science practitioner who was helping us and told her that the labor was not progressing as it should. Her prayer was effective—a son was born quickly and harmoniously with no anesthetics, much to the amazement of the attending physician. Later the doctors confessed that they had not expected me or our child to survive the birth. They also warned that I should never try to have another child because of my condition.
