A friend's departure
In selfish grief I wept for him
When first he passed beyond my sight
And wondered why a summons came
From the Lord of Hosts to end his light.
But then I saw no summons came;
Here with the Lord of Hosts he walked.
Our Lord is Life, both here and there,
And with that Lord he talked and talks.
So now from my old grief I'm free
To find the pathway found by him.
Each step now guided by the scene
That Enoch saw on heaven's rim.
