Pulling together

MAXINE LE PELLEY

We hear the coxswain's
compelling "STROKE!"
on the Charles
pre-dawn.
Devotion is an oarsman
early morn.

The river of Science
calls you and me
to be in place
(icy though the night)
teamed-for-His-purpose
crew of Light.

Love will strengthen
every hand
and
quicken healing cadence
for
(swinging to the Christ's command)
a crew must follow
leading oar.

How smooth the race
Blade on the feather
pulling together!
