What a vast difference there is between ignoring a difficulty and healing it through prayer in Christian Science! This was made clear to us when a small child in our family had a slight evidence of disease on her body. For several weeks this matter seemed minor, but it worsened until the condition appeared to be ringworm.

At this point a Christian Science practitioner was called to pray for the youngster. She quoted these words of St. Paul's (II Cor. 6:2): "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." This concept of nowness—the immediate efficacy of God's healing power—brought an astonishing, instant result.

Within the brief time of the telephone call, the symptoms began to erupt acutely. We saw this action as the evidence of "chemicalization." In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states (p. 401): "What I term chemicalization is the upheaval produced when immortal Truth is destroying erroneous mortal belief. Mental chemicalization brings sin and sickness to the surface, forcing impurities to pass away, as is the case with a fermenting fluid."
