For over fifteen years I submitted to painful and expensive medical treatments for an allergic reaction. Under these treatments, instead of improving, I steadily grew worse. I continued them only because I thought that the doctors knew what was best for me.

After my husband saw the healing power of Christian Science demonstrated in his own life, he encouraged me to turn to this Science for help also. I promised him that if I ever became convinced that no medical treatment could help me, I would try Christian Science. So, when a prominent physician warned me against giving up my allergy treatments—he said a more serious condition would develop and he could not answer for what might happen to me in that event—I told my husband he could take me to see a Christian Science practitioner.

At my first visit I made it clear to her that I was not there because I believed that Christian Science could heal me. I told her I was there only to keep a promise, and that the only thing I was convinced of at that time was that no doctor could heal me. She was compassionate and understanding.
