Christian Science treatment—a last resort?
Relatively few people consider turning entirely to God for healing until all else has failed. Medical means are generally accepted as the appropriate method of treating disease. The prospect of laying aside material remedies and relying instead on prayer seems far removed from common practice.
Yet, rather than being thought of as only a hopeful or necessary last resort, Christianly scientific prayer can be properly viewed as the first and only resort in meeting both severe and lesser challenges. Christian Scientists are finding growing proof of this. When confronted with a problem or difficulty—physical, emotional, personal, or any other—we can turn immediately to God and find in Him the effective solution, the spiritual one.
A prayer-based approach for resolving difficulties is the most effective for a number of reasons. One can pray everywhere—in a crowded subway, in orbit through outer space—in every situation, regardless of circumstance. Prayer requires no material accompaniment. It reflects the unceasing activity of Mind. Furthermore, scientific prayer has the potential of producing instant healings—and true healing is permanent.
