One day at work I was assigned, along with some other men, to test a new pipeline. After the testing, some water had to be blown from the pipe, so we turned the compressed air on at one end, but no water came out the other. When I went to the truck loading station, I discovered that the discharge valve had not been opened. Not realizing that the air pressure had built up in the pipeline, I opened the valve. The sudden discharge of water caused the steel loading arm to whip around and strike me on the side of the head.
The blow left me unconscious, and the injury appeared so serious that the men working with me thought it might be fatal.
I was rushed to the hospital, and my parents were contacted and told that I might not survive. Although we were two thousand miles apart, my parents were confident in the knowledge that man is always in God's care; that as the perfect effect of Spirit, my real identity was undisturbed and intact. A Christian Science practitioner was asked to pray for me.
