When our daughter was about three years old, she began to stammer. The condition worsened until often she was unable to express herself at all. (A baby sitter, who sat with her once a week while I attended a class, expressed great concern.) My husband and I prayed over many months, sometimes with the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner. And although there were times of improvement, the stuttering continued.

Several Bible verses were enlightening in our study: "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword" (Heb. 4: 12); "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1); and "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer" (Ps. 19:14).

Finally, the stammering began to decrease until we joyously acknowledged that she was absolutely free. This child went on to participate often in various oral presentations throughout junior high and high school. More recently she had the lead part in a school production which required that she not only speak but sing in two dialects different from her own. This she did with great humility and perfect ease.
