My introduction to Christian Science came when we were expecting...
My introduction to Christian Science came when we were expecting the birth of our son. We were living in a suburb of Boston, in a house that had been made into apartments. The landlord, who lived downstairs, was married to a Christian Scientist. Many times I visited this kind woman, and together we read the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. I also attended services with her at The Mother Church.
The day the baby was due I was taken to the hospital by my husband and a cousin, who was a medical nurse. Later, this same cousin told me that certain complications had arisen. The doctor promised her and my husband that he would do all he could to save the mother and child but he doubted that either would survive. Despite this prediction, our son was born normally, and we were both fine. Although I had not asked our landlord's wife for specific prayer, I am sure that her correct reasoning and helpful guidance in my study, and the awareness of spiritual truth that I derived from it, brought the child and me safely through. This son attended the Christian Science Sunday School, and he is now active in branch church work. His wife is also a Scientist, and they have raised their daughter in this teaching.
For many years now my husband and I have been members of The Mother Church and a branch church. We've also had the wonderful opportunity of taking Christian Science class instruction.
