People who know of The Christian Science Monitor frequently express appreciation for the quality of its journalism. There is another aspect of the Monitor for which I am most grateful—its healing impact.
Some years ago, in the summer of 1967, I found myself with ivy poisoning on one hand. I worked with this statement of Mrs. Eddy's in Science and Health (p. 514): "All of God's creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible." I reasoned that one of God's ideas could not irritate or injure another, but the condition persisted for a month or so.
Then one day I read an article in the Monitor that described the inflamed Middle East political situation. As I read, the hand with the ivy poisoning suddenly became very irritated—so much so that I could not help recognizing the demand to give prayerful treatment to the world situation, and to forget about my hand.
