One morning some time ago I woke with great pain in my lungs and could not breathe or speak normally. At the time I had been feeling hopelessly depressed. The physical symptoms appeared to be of pleurisy, a condition for which I had received medical treatment before finding Christian Science.
I realized my need for help and called a Christian Science practitioner, who assured me that God is my Life. I was reminded that the illusions of sadness and discouragement cannot exist in the kingdom of heaven, which in the Glossary of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy is explained as "the reign of harmony in divine Science; the realm of unerring, eternal, and omnipotent Mind; the atmosphere of Spirit, where Soul is supreme" (p. 590).
That Friday I stayed away from work. In the afternoon it was a great joy to find the practitioner at my door. During her visit we worked together for quite some time, vigorously affirming the fact that matter cannot affect the real life of man, which is spiritual, not material. We enjoyed using this statement from Science and Health (p. 275): Matter has no life to lose, and Spirit never dies." During the following two days, as I felt increasingly embraced in divine Love's warm and tender care, I frequently pondered the definition of "Kingdom of Heaven." As I thought of "the realm of unerring, eternal, and omnipotent Mind," it became evident to me that in reality Mind's control over me is complete, and this control is entirely loving, so I cannot experience any disorder. While quietly praying along these lines, I clearly understood that this was so right then, and I knew I was healed. I stood up and started my housework.
