Dare to be original

If you were buying a home in a new development, would you be attracted to identical units or an original design? Do you enjoy look-alike, think-alike people or those expressing originality?

Sometimes when we feel at odds with the world, the wrap of conformity may provide an easy retreat. Perhaps through timidity or failure to communicate we find strength in an indiscriminate banding together. But conformity can delay an individual's awakening to his potential as a unique, one-of-a-kind creation.

As infinitely varied reflections of an unlimitedly resourceful Father, we all share the heritage of His qualities, such as beauty, intelligence. In reality, there are no carbon copies—only originals. Christian Science shows us that God does not repeat Himself. Each identity in God's universe reflects His qualities in an individual—a unique—way. Even humanly we recognize that no two sets of fingerprints (or voiceprints) are alike. God's idea, man, is spiritual. Only by getting to know God's many-faceted nature can we hope to understand and demonstrate our own individuality—the real selfhood delineated by Spirit.
