How the church can help the government
Sometimes church institutions may feel the temptation to view the government the way an individual or a secular organization might: What can the government do for us?
Christian Science shows the major issue is not how the government can help the church but how the church can help the government—how it can ease the burden placed on the government, the burden of trying to solve so many of society's problems. Government badly needs what only an understanding of the spiritual nature of Church can contribute.
With Independence Day drawing near again in the United States, a certain amount of attention is focused on the government—its origin, its purpose, its needs. This can be an opportunity to think more clearly about the relationship between government and the deeper spiritual nature of Church.
