An interview: with a diver
Celia (CeCe) Herron, a native Califomian, began taking diving lessons at an early age. By the time CeCe reached high school, she had participated in regional and national diving meets in both springboard and platform diving. Her skills won her the honor of competing in the 1972 Olympic trials. In 1973 CeCe was sent to the Soviet Union to represent the United States in an international diving meet. Since then she has assisted diving coaches in major universities in the United States and has written several sports articles for magazines and newspapers.
How did you get interested in diving?
Well, I lived right near Stanford University, and I used to spend a lot of time just watching the swimmers and divers practice. I started doing little front somersaults off the diving board and got more and more involved until I eventually joined a regular program.
