Two years ago, through prayer in Christian Science, I had a very quick healing. One day, as I was preparing lunch, I felt myself becoming very weak, then suddenly I began to lose the use of one side of my body. I tried to reach the telephone to ring a Christian Science practitioner for help but fell to the floor and was unable to get up. I became very fearful but kept denying the error of incapacity and illness. I prayed, repeating "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. This statement denies substance and intelligence in matter. The opening words are (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."
After a while I managed to crawl to the telephone and tell the practitioner what had happened. She began to pray for me at once. I managed to lift myself up onto a chair near the telephone, declaring the truth as best I could and trying to overcome the fear.
A short time later the practitioner rang to ask me if I would like her to send the Christian Science visiting nurse to be with me, but I told her I would contact my husband at his work.
When my husband arrived home, I asked him to help me to another room. As I still could not stand on my own, he said he would carry me. While preparing to do this, trying to find the most comfortable position to help me, we both saw the funny side of this whole lie and burst out laughing. I feel that this attitude helped break the mesmerism of the illness, for in a few minutes I got up and walked to the kitchen by myself—healed! It was a most wonderful proof of God's presence and power to hold His idea, man, intact. This all took place within three hours from the time I first rang the practitioner. The next day I drove my car several miles to visit with the practitioner.
My husband and I have witnessed many other healings in our family. There have been healings of dogbite, constipation, and displaced vertebrae.
I am sincerely grateful for Christian Science, also for the effective prayer of practitioners who are always ready to assist us, when needed.
(Mrs.) Irene Boyle Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia
I am the husband mentioned in the above testimony, and I am very grateful to God to have witnessed this healing.
