Mrs. Eddy writes in Rudimental Divine Science (p. 2), "Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science." I know this is true. I love this Science not only because it heals physical ailments, but also because Christian Science healing reveals the truth of God and my relationship to Him. As I have recognized this, difficulties have become less frightening and have taken on more the aspect of opportunities.
A few years ago I was suddenly disabled with a painful back condition. At first I felt unable to get out of bed because of the extreme difficulty; and even when I was able to arise, it was only for short spans. I spent most of my time studying and praying. After three or four days there appeared to be no improvement, but it became necessary for me to drive my children to school. As I went I declared out loud the truths I knew.
Afterward, on the way home, I found myself declaring quite forcibly, "I am not illegitimate." I found this a shocking statement, but I realized we often believe we are born sinners, deserving only punishment. Christ Jesus taught us to pray, "Our Father"; so I immediately began to affirm that God was my Father and I was His beloved child, that God was responsible for my being and my support. I knew that as His child I had His support, and I accepted it. The pain lessened immediately, and by evening I was completely healed.
